First-Year Checklist (Required)

Prepare for your Advising & Orientation session and your first quarter at the UW.

The First-Year Checklist includes important tasks you must complete as you begin your journey at UW, including making your A&O reservation. Items marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

Note: You must complete several tasks before selecting your A&O date. Access the First-Year Checklist below to get started.

Tasks due before making an A&O Part 2 reservation
  • Acknowledge Student Code of Conduct*
  • Activate UW Email and 2FA/DUO
  • Add Cell Phone # To UW Alert System
  • Complete Transition Questionnaire*
    • Anticipated Credits
    • Basic Needs
    • First Quarter Housing
    • Student Success Program Affiliations
    • New Student Experience Survey
  • Review Important A&O Information
  • Update Communication Preferences*
  • Upload Husky Card Photo 
  • Update Personal Information 
  • Update UW Address and WAIIS Records Consent* 
  • Welcome to the Pack 
Tasks due 3 days before attending A&O Part 2
  • Complete Chemistry Placement
  • Complete Computer Science & Engineering Guided Self-Placement
    Complete the Husky Foundations Course 
  • Complete Mathematics Guided Self-placement
  • Review English Composition Requirements
  • Review World Language Placement & Proficiency
  • Search for a FIG (Summer and Autumn admits only)
Tasks due before the 1st day of the quarter
  • A Message From the Provost
  • Complete UW Course - Alcohol e-Checkup To Go*
  • Complete UW Course - Hazing Prevention Training*
  • Complete UW Course - Title IX: Husky Prevention & Response*
  • Review Disability Accommodations Request Process (Academic Year)
  • Using Digital Tools at UW
Additional tasks (all students)
  • Make an A&O Reservation 
  • Make a Plan for Dawg Daze (Summer and Autumn admits only)
  • Review the Husky Foundations Course
  • Review MMM Immunization Requirement* (within the first three weeks of the quarter)
  • Stay Connected Through UW Social Media
  • Submit your Final Transcripts
Additional tasks (international students)
  1. Access MyISSS (F & J Visa Holders Only)
  2. Request your I-20/DS-2019
  3. Obtain your visa 
  4. Complete the International Student Services (ISS) Post-Arrival Checklist 
  5. Attend International Husky Welcome
  6. Participate in Regional Connection Groups
Additional tasks by program (Allen School, Engineering, Honors, Informatics)

Note: The following tasks are only for students who are directly admitted to one of these programs. 

Allen student tasks:

  • Activate CSE Email and Review Resources

Engineering student tasks:

  • Complete The Mill Training
  • Review Engineering Technology & Portal

Honors student tasks:

  • Complete Honors Program Introduction - due 3 days before attending your A&O Part 2 session

Informatics student tasks:

  • Complete Pre-Orientation Survey - due 3 days before attending your A&O Part 2 session
