Below is a sample agenda of what your day will look like.
Winter/spring admission:
Family Orientation is hosted as a one-hour Zoom session, providing an overview of resources available to support your Husky during their transition. You will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link. You will also receive a link to the Family Orientation agenda, which includes recordings of the sessions outlined below.
Summer/autumn admission:
Family Orientation is hosted as a live Zoom session from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. PT. You will receive a confirmation email with links to the Family Orientation agenda and Zoom meeting.
- Welcome
- The offices of Parent & Family Programs and First Year Programs will kick-off Family Orientation with an overview of the agenda and some tips for helping your student navigate their first year at UW.
- Academics & Course Registration
- Academic advisers are one of the most critical connections your student can make. This session will introduce the academic adviser role and an overview of the general education requirements that students use to create their class schedules. If your student was directly admitted to a specific college or school, please join the webinar link shared in your confirmation email.
- Paying the Tuition Bill
- Academic Support
- Explore the various academic resources students can utilize to support their academic success.
- Student Health & Well-Being
- Your student's health and wellness are important to us. Learn more from Husky Heath Center professionals about the resources your student can connect with to support their mental and physical wellness.
- Break
- Take a moment to stretch or step away.
- Parent Conversations: Ask Me Anything
- During this session, you will have the opportunity to join a breakout room based on a topic of your choosing:
- Financial Aid: Join representatives from the Office of Student Financial Aid to ask questions about how financial aid works. Other questions may include the cost of attendance, an overview of the different types of financial awards, requesting a revision to financial aid awards, understanding loans, or using aid to pay bills.
- Student Leader Panel: Ask current students about their UW transition.
- Campus Safety
- UWPD will share information about campus safety, resources, and tips for keeping your students' items secure.
- Building Community
- Conversation with Faculty
- Meet with UW faculty to learn ways your student will interact with faculty, including classroom expectations.
