Hack into Things – hosted by Batman’s Kitchen RSO 

Do you have what it takes to hack a website, a database or a program? Yes, you do.  Try out your first hacking challenge with Batman’s Kitchen, the University of Washington’s very own Capture-the-Flag Cybersecurity RSO! (More info on the event page). 

Painting with Brain Waves – Synaptech 

Discover the secrets inside your brain as we track its electrical activity in real time, translate it into meaningful patterns, and use it to create stunning art. Then, test your knowledge in a friendly competition for a chance to win some cool prizes! Synaptech is a neuroengineering focused RSO, welcome to any and all majors. 

Astronomy Student Panel – Cosmic Questions    

Bring all of your cosmic questions to the Astronomy Student Panel! Our panelists will include undergraduate students; League of Astronomer members; as well as Astronomy Academic Counselors. The panel will briefly go over the major requirements and admissions process. Then it will be followed by a Q&A session where you can ask current students what it’s like to be an Astronomy major. Sit Down with iGEM – Synbio Info Session 

Welcome new and returning Huskies! Come by to learn more about what iGEM is, what the heck subteams are, and what research positions we have to offer for the upcoming year for both STEM and non-STEM majors. Combined with our info session is an educational segment that highlights the basics of Synthetic Biology which would include discussing techniques and methods used in synthetic biology. Bracelets with SWE 

Are you interested in being part of a close-knit community that offers mentorship, academic support, and career development? If yes, attend Society of Women Engineer’s bracelet making event! Join us to chat with fellow UW students while making bracelets and a chance to win a raffle prize! We’ll answer any questions you have about SWE or engineering in general. Interactive Intelligence (I2) Info Session + Game     

I2 is UW’s student-led machine learning and neuroscience organization. I2 is an environment which aims to create a community of project-driven, outcome-oriented students at the University of Washington interested in the intersections of artificial intelligence, cognitive science, neuroscience, and philosophy. Our goal is to make machines learn like humans. Join us for our info session to learn about the wonderful community we have built and play a fun game/activity!! Plus, we have snacks!!! 

Quizness as Usual: A STEM Trivia Game 

Test your trivia skills with UW Libraries in this virtual trivia contest! We’ll have 7 rounds of fun questions covering science and technology, the UW, Seattle, and more! University Bookstore gift cards will be awarded to top finishers. Join via this Zoom link and use your smartphone to answer the questions. 

Physicians for Human Rights | Undergrad Recruitment & Information Session    

This is a great opportunity for incoming undergraduate students interested in healthcare, public health advocacy, and ending humanitarian crises. Students will have the chance to meet with prospective and current medical students from the UW School of Medicine (UWSOM) and learn more about our organization’s mission, goals, and opportunities for undergraduate students to get involved! The Physicians for Humans Rights (PHR) UW Chapter is composed of medical students, physicians, and other faculty at the UWSOM and the greater Seattle area. We are seeking to expand our recruitment to undergraduate students and provide them with valuable leadership and volunteer experiences. 

A Taste of DubHacks     

Come get “A Taste of DubHacks”; a preview of our annual hackathon coming up on the weekend of October 14th! Whether you’re a hackathon pro or don’t even know what the word means; join us to learn what DubHacks is all about; meet new people and design a quick project about a topic you’re passionate about, as well as learning more about the world of hackathons.  We’re so excited to meet you! This event will be held twice: on September 22nd and September 25th at 4 and 1 pm respectively. Come for any session and if we’ve hit capacity we’ll save your spot for the next session ???? DubHacks is a tech and entrepreneurship non-profit in Seattle run by students here at UW; and we bring together students of all backgrounds to tackle the issues they are most passionate about. Battle of the Bots - ARUW    

Ever wanted to play paintball with robots? Come join ARUW and explore the engineering behind our competitive robots for the RoboMaster competition, and see them in action against each other! At the Battle of the Bots multiple of our robots will be dueling in a 1v1 competition, driven by team members and visitors.

STEM Student Day Hike to the Washington Park Arboretum 

Come meet your fellow STEM students as you walk around one of Seattle’s best parks: The Arboretum! The Arboretum is a welcome oasis on the shores of Lake Washington. Jointly managed by the University of Washington Botanic Gardens and the City of Seattle, its 230 acres contain a dynamic assortment of plants, some found nowhere else in the Northwest. For the event, we will meet in front of Parrington Hall at 9:30 and make our way to the 15th Ave NE Campus Pkwy bus stop. From here, we will take a short ride to the park located across the Cut. Medical Laboratory Science BS Degree: The Hidden Profession    

You can be an integral part of the medical team using your love of science and passion for medicine to become a highly employable Medical Laboratory Scientist. Join the MLS academic adviser for an information session to learn about this undergraduate degree program in the UW School of Medicine. 

Grey Matters Journal: Human Brain Demonstration and Grad Student Panel 

Touch a human brain and chat with graduate and medical school students at Grey Matters’ Dawg Daze Event! Grey Matters is the University of Washington’s undergraduate neuroscience journal dedicated to bringing neuroscience to the public in an accessible yet accurate manner. Join the most established neuroscience RSO on campus to gain valuable experience with scientific content creation, build community with like-minded students, and develop skills in leadership and teamwork. Looking forward to seeing you this Autumn! 

Our planet… our space?    

Who “owns” the new frontier? There’s way more to it than you can imagine! Join space security expert Saadia M. Pekkanen, Jackson School professor and founding director of the Space Law, Data and Policy program (SPACE LDP) at the UW School of Law as she provides a brief and impactful introduction to cybersecurity, technology and diplomacy. Hear about emerging threats and new developments in international security in outer space. Then take your own journey into space with a wonderful Planetarium presentation. Follow up with a fun get together of snacks and conversation. A real treat for all new and current students! Space is limited. First come, first served. 

Custom Sticker Making at the MILL 

Join us at The McCarty Innovation & Learning Lab (The MILL) to make your own custom vinyl print sticker! MILL staff will get you set up with art supplies and paper so you can sketch your design. Then watch your design come to life as it’s printed on our Roland large format vinyl printer. Stickers are water proof and make great water bottle accessories!   

Data Science Minor Information Session     

Are you interested in learning about studying data science at UW (or not quite sure what data science is)? This information session will introduce students to the interdisciplinary data science minor. Students will be able to hear from faculty, students, and advisers about how this minor focuses on skills in data science methods, their implications for the society, and how to bridge data science to other fields of study. 

Engineers Without Borders – Hackysack and Hang! 

Come get together with members of UW’s Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB)! At this Dawg Daze event you will be able to learn about the international and local projects we’ll be working on this year, as well as meeting some of our members and playing a little hackysack, if you are interested. All are welcome to participate and hang with us! 

Journeys in Undergraduate Research    

Join the UW Undergraduate Research Program (URP) to hear about the undergraduate researcher experience. The highlight of this session will be a panel of undergraduate researchers from a variety of fields; who will share their journeys into research and reveal how undergraduate research has impacted their undergraduate careers and beyond. URP staff and students will also answer your questions about undergraduate research involvement and how to begin and advance in undergraduate research. Students from all years; majors; and institutions are welcome and encouraged to attend this interactive undergraduate researcher panel! 

Design Build Fly RC Simulatator Day 

Mon, Sep. 25 | 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | The 8, McMahon Hall 

Come join UW’s Design, Build, Fly Engineering RSO at the 8, in McMahon Hall where we’ll show new students how our pilot program teaches students how to fly RC aircraft! While waiting for a turn to fly one our RC Aircraft flight simulators, we will be providing tours of our engineering workspace, where we manufacture the aircraft we use to compete!

Pre-Health Huskies: How to Prepare for a Career in a Health Profession   

Interested in a career in the health profession? This session will explore what steps are necessary to enter this field; whether it’s in medicine; dentistry; public health; or a related field. Learn how to set yourself up for success; from course and major planning to opportunities for clinical exposure; undergraduate research; and leadership. This event is presented by the UW Career & Internship Center (C&IC). 

Husky Coding Project Info Session  

Interested in gaining coding and project management experience while working in your own team? Come join Husky Coding Project as we cover these topics: our club meetings and what YOU can accomplish with us throughout the school year, what is Team Formation Day?, and the cycle of projects, including previous examples… (more info on the event page) 

 

UW Engineering Jeopardy w/ Formula Motorsports 

Join UW Formula Motorsports for a fun afternoon of Engineering Jeopardy! In this event, students will be competing in groups of 4-5 to answer Jeopardy-style questions about Engineering, University of Washington, NASCAR/Formula 1, fun team member questions, and much more! Have the chance to meet other students in the College of Engineering, get advice from upperclassmen on internships and classes, and win prizes! We hope to see you there!

CLUE Trivia Night   

Don’t have quite enough homework after the first day of class to drop into CLUE for the tutors? Well; why not join us for games and great prizes! Join us for the 12th annual CLUE trivia night; hosted by your CLUE tutors! Study up on current events; pop culture; and random useless information and then bring a team of friends or come alone and we will assign you to a team for the competition. Sign-ups for the competition start at 6:30pm and the competition begins at 7:00pm. Great prizes for first; second; and third place! Husky ID card required for building access after 5:00pm.
