First Generation Students: Welcome to the UW Libraries

Attend our library orientation for first generation students to find out how the UW Libraries can help you succeed at UW. We’ll show you how to navigate online resources, find course materials, start your own research, and more! In addition, you’ll have a chance to meet other students and ask any questions you might have. Student attendees will be entered into a drawing for a $20 e-gift card.

What Do Employers Care About When Hiring College Graduates?

The #1 reason students attend college is to get a better job. What many students don’t understand, however, is that simply earning a degree is not typically sufficient for career success. Additionally, many rely on outdated information and inaccurate advice from family, friends, social media and the like when making critical decisions about how to spend their time and build their marketability for career positions. In this session, we’ll share findings from national surveys about what employment recruiters look for when hiring new college graduates. While some of it may be old news to you, some of it may surprise you!

First Gen Panel

The First Generation Student Panel is intentionally designed to welcome first-generation college students to campus! Join us for snacks and hear from a panel of first-gen peers sharing their experiences and advice to incoming first-gen students. Dawg Daze and ECC host this event to create an opportunity for networking and building community before school starts.

Volunteer, Internships, & Paid Opportunities (VIP) Fair

Similar to a career fair, you will be able to browse various opportunities for community engaged work this year with CELE Center programs. You will meet staff, students, and other program participants. We will highlight both volunteer and paid opportunities, including work-study positions to utilize your financial aid. Snacks and prizes will be available! Opportunities will include Pre-12th grade school engagement, STEM engagement, rural & tribal engagement, leadership and service programs, and more. All students are invited to attend! BIPOC, first gen, international, and transfer students are encouraged to attend.
