Overview
Hourly wage: $20.76 (effective January 1, 2025)
Start/end date: June.04.2025–June.13.2026
Hours available:
June 30-July 2 (mandatory training)
July 7-August 21: 5.5-26.5/week
VRAs can expect to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. PST. A&O sessions occur Monday-Thursday. VRAs will not have responsibilities on Fridays or the weekends.
This position is a fully virtual position; however, applicants must facilitate A&O from the United States. Applicants must be able to host A&O in a distraction free environment that is quiet and have a stable wi-fi connection for facilitating Zoom meetings.
Summary of Work
Virtual Registration Assistants will:
- Support advisers in Zoom by hosting the room/breakout rooms, aiding with course registration, and providing customer service for both students and advisers.
- Help students navigate and gain understanding of UW registration policies, general degree requirements, and the Areas of Inquiry. Guide students in accessing the many academic resources available at the UW such as MyPlan, DARS, and Academic Support Programs.
- Portray the University of Washington, its policies, services, and campus life in a positive manner to first-year students and families.
- Communicate with students using email, texting with FYP-provided phone number and web-based platform during A&O sessions.
- VRAs will use their personal cell phones (masking their phone numbers) to text and call incoming students.
- Other duties as assigned by FYP and UAA Advising to support planning and facilitation of A&O and new student transitions. The VRA role also requires behind the scenes logistics, actions, and projects to support the transition of first year students. Please expect to complete projects that support the overall work of the First Year Programs office.
Required Qualifications
- Be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the UW Seattle campus in Fall 2025.
- Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Must be able to attend the Virtual Registration Assistant Welcome Night (June 4, 2025, 5:00–6:00 p.m. in-person, paid)
- Must be able to commit to attending the Summer Training days (June 30–July 2 virtual, paid)
- Review and be able to work the dates of Advising & Orientation Part 2 (Summer calendar)
- Be in good academic and conduct standing with the University, prior to and throughout the entire term of employment.
- Have stable wi-fi connection to support showing video and facilitating an A&O Zoom meeting (recommended 50 Mbps).
- Must be able to turn their cameras on and host A&O in a distraction-free, quiet environment located in the United States.
- Must be enthusiastic and genuinely interested in helping fellow students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in similar or related activities (e.g., Orientation Leader, Resident Advisor, CUADSS Student Associate, Student Government/Club Executive Officer, work with young adults, or other Peer Advising positions)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly motivated and proven ability to work independently
- Experience working with diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty

Question 4:
You will be facilitating a Zoom Room with multiple students who need registration assistance. While there will be an academic adviser present in the room, it is your role to manage the room. In the following scenario, four students are simultaneously in need of assistance.
Student 1 has met with the adviser three times and is requesting to meet with them again. She is having a difficult time selecting which A&H course to take.
Student 2 is unresponsive in the room. They have their camera turned off and will not respond in the chat.
Student 3 accidentally left the Zoom room and is in the waiting room. She is urgently messaging in the waiting room that she needs to be let into the room immediately.
Student 4 is upset because there are no seats left in PHYS 121. He is insisting that you can provide him with an add code.
