A Favorite Memory from Your First Year at UW

Spending time in a special discussion section with a computer science professor and other CS students. That section convinced me to major in computer engineering myself.

The Suzzallo Library on the 2nd floor. The "Harry Potter" library. I love how beautiful and detailed the architecture is, every time I am in there I notice something new. It's also quiet and peaceful which helps me be productive.

7th floor corner study room in Alder Hall, it has a tiny view of Space Needle and downtown Seattle. My first year at UW was online so I'd leave my dorm room and spend the day at that study room instead, it was always nice to take a break and look at the view of Seattle in the distance.

Seeing and reconnecting with peers from the past that I would have never thought I would have seen again since high school. Although these memories are all from different experiences, coming into UW has allowed me to redevelop or develop these relationships with these people

The Hans Rosling Center since I am a PH-GH major and it honestly is just so nice and has everything you need. I also love the all-gender bathrooms in it. Another more sentimental place I like would be the sylvan grove just because of what they stand for and represent.

The marching band rally at the Dawg Daze carnival. It was a cool moment that really made me think "wow, I'm actually at UW!". My hometown's entire population is about 1/4 of UW's student body, so having such a big group of students celebrating really made me feel the Husky community and culture even though I had only just moved on campus

Participating in Dawg Daze and getting chased by a bunch of students was definitely memorable. This was during a scavenger hunt I volunteered for where I had a balloon attached to my wrist, and it was the participants' goal to find me, catch me, and take a selfie with me to earn bonus points. A group of football players almost tackled me!

The HUB is great. You can eat, study, and game there! It is a great place to meet with friends at and there is a hair salon there, too!

The Quad! Even when I'm just walking through it, I love to look at the trees and all of the squirrels running around. Walking through the Quad on a sunny day automatically betters my mood.

Late-night study Zoom sessions with friends and study groups made my virtual first year great! It helped me maintain a sense of community despite everything being online.

My favorite spot on campus has to be the swing near the hub! Me and my roommate like to swing on it during finals week or any time that it is nice out. It definitely releases a lot of stress which is nice during a hectic quarter.

Going on a field trip to Snoqualmie Falls with my geology professor and classmates was so much fun! I loved the ways the professor taught us in different way; I could experience the elements of nature in person! It delighted me to partake in his group activities.

Favorite Spot on Campus

Denny Field is the perfect place to work out, have some games of spike or wiffle ball, or just soak up some sun on a warm day. Denny is a haven for congregation and activities, and I remember my freshman year going onto Denny in the snow with friends and staying out in the cold until 3 AM because we were having so much fun sliding around.

Favorite Spot on Campus

My favorite spot on campus (at least to study) has to be the HUB, and ESPECIALLY the purple chairs that are right by the window. I love this spot because it is very comfortable, and it's easy to kick your legs up on the windowsill and sit there for hours just working on school. I like to zone out and watch the people and animals outside the window.

My most special memory is meeting my friend Kai at Dawg Daze on the boba tour! I was so scared coming to UW because I didn't know anyone attending. It made me feel so much better to meet someone and become friends. We ended up having a class together and would walk to the bus stop after class. I had so much fun in my first quarter because of him!

Bonding with all of my clustermates and hanging out with them in the common room talking until late at night. It was an every night occurrence and that's what made me feel at home here.

My favorite spot on campus is the open park below the law building. It's never too crowded, and, from that field, you can enjoy both the bustle of the city and the calm of nature. If the ground isn't soaked, you'll probably see me having picnics there! Come join me!

The Quad! I love sitting on the grass and reading while the sun is shining. I love how beautiful it looks when the trees are blossoming. I even love the way it looks when its raining and there are gray clouds above me.

A Favorite Memory from Your First Year at UW

During one of the first times it snowed, my friends called me to come to Denny field, and everyone was running around in the snow. I have never seen so many young adults be so playful and energetic past midnight in the middle of the week. People were throwing snowballs at whoever walked by, there were challenges with who could make the biggest snowmen, and people just running around soaking it all in. In that moment this school really felt like a community I belonged and loved, one which was beginning to feel like home.
