Your application responses are limited to 2,000 characters per question, but you do not have to use the entire 2,000-character count. You may wish to first write out your responses on a separate document (Google Docs, Word) and paste them into the corresponding response box. Note that many questions are multi-part, so please respond to all parts of the questions.

Question 1: Application of transition experience

As a Virtual Orientation Leader, you will support incoming students from a variety of backgrounds and transition experiences. Reflect on your own transition to UW to answer the following:

  • What were 2-3 key aspects of your transition experience (challenges you navigated, resources or individuals that helped you, moments of connection or discovery)?
  • How would you use your transition experience to support a student whose background or transition journey is different from your own? Please provide a specific example.

Question 2: Dependability and self-management

  • After reviewing the VOL schedule requirements, which parts of the role do you anticipate being most important for you to plan ahead for?
  • What strategies will you use to stay reliable, communicate proactively, and support your own wellbeing while meeting these expectations?

Question 3: Understanding of community building

  • Please include a list of activities that describes relevant job experience, volunteer work, clubs and organizations, hobbies, and any other activities you enjoy doing on and off-campus. This list does not have to be limited to only organized or academic activities. The activities list is another way for us to get to know you. Please limit your response to a few paragraphs and/or bullet points.
  • From the activities listed, select one and share how it has impacted your Husky experience.

Question 4: Professionalism in teamwork

  • Tell us about a time when you worked with a team (in a class, club, volunteer project, job, etc.) and your collaboration skills were tested. This might include situations like differing work styles, tight deadlines, unclear roles, or disagreements about direction. What specific actions did you take to help the team succeed?
  • What did you learn about working effectively with others?
