Virtual Orientation Leaders will do the following:

  1. Enroll and receive credit for the in-person General Studies 370: Peer Facilitation class in spring quarter. In this class, you will learn how to lead groups and build community.
  2. Attend and participate in Virtual Summer Training. You will receive more specific training for the role during this time.
  3. Lead a small group of 15–25 incoming students on Zoom. For each Advising & Orientation session, you will guide discussions and activities.
  4. Support advisers and UW staff in Zoom. You will host the main room and breakout rooms, answer questions, help with course registration, and provide customer service for both students and advisers.
  5. Represent the University of Washington in a positive way. Share accurate information about UW policies, services, and campus life with first-year and transfer students and families.
  6. Communicate with students using email, texting with an NSTP-provided phone number and web-based platform, and social media until the first day of their admitted quarter (fall, winter, or spring).
    • VOLs will use their personal cell phones (with phone numbers hidden) to text and call incoming students.
  7. Promote and encourage participation in all NSTP Programs (Dawg Daze, FIGs, Commuter and Transfer Commons, First Year Networks).
  8. Complete other duties as assigned by NSTP to support planning and running A&O and new student transitions.
