First Year Programs is seeking a tech-savvy student passionate about supporting student success through effective communication. As the Communications and Engagement Student Coordinator (Comms StuCo), you will:

  • Work collaboratively with staff and student leaders to enhance the first-year experience at UW
  • Help manage and implement First-Year Networks
  • Create and manage social media content for Instagram using Meta Business Suite
  • Develop email communications through Jeto
  • Produce photography and short videos

The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, and has strong digital communication skills.

Summary of work 

The Communications and Engagement Student Coordinator will: 
Communications and marketing (50%)

  • Manage and implement a communications and marketing calendar for social media channels and email outreach
  • Create marketing materials for social media channels including short video and photography 
  • Curate photo and video content for First Year Programs  
  • Develop New Husky Communications including “Tips from Dubs” emails 
  • Attend events, interview students, and use other outreach methods to promote and develop online engagement with FYP social media accounts 

First-Year Networks (40%)

  • Plan, implement, and facilitate two Networks events (including Network Event during Dawg Daze) during the 2025-2026 school year
  • Create weekly emails that provide first-year students with opportunities to get connected to the UW community and UW resources
  • Manage the First-Year Networks discord
  • Manage the First-Year Networks sign-up process and form
  • Be the primary contact for First-Year Networks students and manage FYEngage shared email inbox
  • Conduct data tracking and assessment used to evaluate and improve the program
  • Conduct individual reach-outs to caseload students in order to support student transitions

Other duties as assigned (10%)

  • Support A&O programs as needed
  • Support Dawg Daze as needed
  • Be available for general FYP related tasks as assigned. 
  • Support the FYP Front Desk as needed. 
  • Actively engage with office activities and provide feedback on our procedures 

Dates and hours

Start/end date: 6/16/25–6/12/26

Hourly wage: $20.76 (effective January 1, 2025)

Hours available: 

  • Summer quarter: 20 hrs/week
  • Dawg Daze: 39.5 hours from 9/17-9/26 (including weekend and evening work)
  • Autumn quarter: 12-19.5 hrs/week
  • Winter quarter: 12-19.5 hrs/week
  • Spring quarter: 12-19.5 hrs/week

Required qualifications

  • Full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student on the Seattle campus with a graduation date no earlier than June of 2026
  • Good academic and conduct standing prior to and throughout the entire term of employment.
  • Must be able to work June 2025–June 2026 with a minimum of
    • 15 hours during fall, winter and spring quarter
    • 20 hours during Summer 2025 (beginning June 16)
    • Available to work the weekend of September 19-21, hours to be determined.
    • 39.5 hours during Dawg Daze (September 17-26) (will flex hours once school begins)
  • Must have a high attention to detail  
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced environment 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate thought process, project status, and context to multiple supervisors  

Desired qualifications

  • Experience crafting detailed written communication that is accessible to various audiences
  • Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating social media communications 
  • Experience with video production 
  • Comfortable interacting in-person with students and campus partners 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently 
  • Previous experience running or planning events 
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office

Botanical Print-Making Workshop (Saturday, May 3)
