GEN STUDIES 205 is a two-credit course designed specifically for first-quarter transfer students coming from Washington state community and technical colleges. This course will help you explore your academic identity, plan your academic and career paths, and build valuable social networks. You'll connect with fellow transfer students, faculty, staff, and peer leaders, creating a supportive community as you navigate your new environment.

Instructor: Dr. Emily Kolby, She/Her
Dr. Kolby is the Director of First Year Curriculum and Engagement and has a PhD in Adult & Higher Education from Oregon State University. Prior to working at the UW, she worked for 15 years in academic advising at Bellevue College. Her work focuses on helping students move into and through college via different pathways. She is excited to support transfer students at the University of Washington. In her free time, she enjoys exploring local coffee shops, taking aerial photos, and watching Broadway musicals.
