As a new first-year student, we want to connect you to other students and continue to define your academic identity. Join us for this casual mixer and advising workshop in the Husky Union Building. You will register for the session when you make your Advising & Orientation Reservation. When you check-in, you will pick up your New Husky Welcome Package. If you have a class conflict, please complete the following form (http://fyp.uw.edu/ao999), and we will provide you with information to ensure you can complete your requirements.
A&O Pt 3 is intentionally designed to give you time on campus to acclimate and get used to your new environment. To learn about resources on campus, complete the challenges by using the Goosechase app and visiting locations on campus. Each item and location will be necessary for your success as a new Husky. We hope you not only discover all of the great resources available but also make some new connections and meet a few people along the way. The stops will only be available in various locations during the first two weeks of the winter quarter.
After completing all the challenges, on the week of 1/22/2024 our team will load $10 onto your Husky ID Cards account to purchase textbooks or food on campus during the winter quarter. If you have additional questions, please email dawgdaze@uw.edu.

After you have found your classes, decide what help you will need to be successful. Here are a few tips to prepare:
- Read your syllabus, canvas website, or course materials.
- Identify who will teach your courses, explore their research interests, and learn about their field. Understanding who your faculty member is as a person, researcher, and scholar will assist in your learning. In general, you can Google their name or explore the department website.
- Figure out your strategy for studying and note-taking. A majority of first-year students stated that their number one concern in the first quarter was study strategies. Take the Academic Support Programs quiz to explore ways to study.
Visit with International Student Services and CIRCLE to ensure you are set up for success.
- Mark your calendar for CIRCLE Welcome Week Activities.
- The U.S. government requires all F-1 and J-1 students to officially “check in” with their university when they begin a new program of study in the U.S.
- No appointment or meeting is required — check-in at the UW is 100% online
- You must be inside the U.S. to check-in. Please complete your online check-in as soon as possible after successfully entering the U.S.
