What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
New students should DEFINITELY take an American Ethnic Studies class! Critical Race Theory is under attack and it is so important to take these classes to continue developing the field and to show that these courses are valued.
What advice do you have for new students?
One piece of advice I have is that-- Its okay to make mistake, and fall often, but the most important thing is that you should get back up again and try it again and again.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love the location! Everything I could ask for is within walking distance, there is solid public transportation, there are great running and biking routes that run through campus, and it's on the water. It's a great place to live!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Any Starbucks location on campus. I love trying out new flavours and stopping by before my class starts, it's a good mood booster.
What advice do you have for new students?
Don't worry about the small things and introduce yourself to as many people as you can! Enjoy the small moments and be present because it goes by really fast

I love the location! Seattle is an awesome city to explore with your friends and there is always so much to do.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
I think new students should experience at least one football game during the fall. It’s a great place to show your Husky pride and be surrounded by people who are rooting for the same team as you!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Waterfront: it just gives me the happiness and serotonin required. It is my go to comfort spot
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is the Tateuchi East Asia Library on the 3rd floor of Gowen hall. This library is my go-to spot to study. Teal is the one of the only Asian libraries on campus, if not the only one, and being Asian I feel more connected to the space.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Gasworks park with friends at night! The skyline view is gorgeous and a perfect spot to hang out and talk.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
All of the different communities you can join and connect with people that have similar interests as you, but incredibly diverse life experiences.
What advice do you have for new students?
Embarrassment only exists if you allow yourself to feel it! Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to the person next to you in lecture or to ask your roommates to go out to the Ave with you!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
The quad in the spring! The cherry blossoms are so pretty!!
What advice do you have for new students?
Explore activities and opportunities outside your comfort zone. The only way to grow academically and individually is to try new things and enjoy experiencing the unknown. Don’t be afraid to fail and learn how to get back up stronger than you were before!

I love how many opportunities there are! No matter how niche you think something may be, there will probably be at least one person with the same interest out there!
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Husky dawg daze is an experience! Try to attend all events or those that sound interesting to you!
What advice do you have for new students?
Try everything you can! This is such a unique time and position in your life that you are truly available to so many different people and experiences. You never know if you'll find your true passions unless you explore!

Orin's in Paccar Hall - great place to meet with people or study, also the bagels are geat!

I love the endless opportunities UW offers! Whether it’s leadership roles, internships, study abroad, or student organizations, there’s always something to get involved in.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Volunteering/Jobs in various environments, and pushing yourself to build community
What advice do you have for new students?
Put yourself out there, this is the time to make mistakes and learn to take rejection but also learn to take the good as well.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
I love the walkway between Hitchcock and the William Foege Biochemistry Building, especially during sunset. The rays perfectly align on this walkway.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
The campus is really beautiful at all times of the year! It's very rewarding to be here, and feel supported by the people around me!
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
RSOs on campus, especially for STEM majors, are a fantastic way to gain experience related to your field, make professional connections and friends, and learn in a hands-on setting.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
I love the population health building during sunset! The huge glass windows and natural lighting make it a great study spot!
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Dawg Daze are the best way to make friends and find interests and clubs. The carnivals and the RSO fairs are a must-attend experience (even if it’s just for free food/stuff)!
What advice do you have for new students?
Prioritize your health first. Everything else comes second. Remember to exercise, eat healthy, and drink water - if you meet these basic requirements then life in college will suddenly seem a lot more manageable. It's strange.

The plethora of opportunities to join diverse RSOs and form a community!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
I love Allen Library. Studying for my classes surrounded by ceiling high book shelves feels so motivating.

I love Dubs! He's so cute and I love seeing him whenever possible.
What advice do you have for new students?
Explore! Both UW and Seattle in general have lots of unique places. I recommend taking advantage of this, especially when it comes to exploring off campus.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Join an RSO! Such a great way to meet people and have an outlet from your everyday school work.

The ability to involve yourself in anything you like, we have RSOs, classes, and opportunities for all interests and passions.

The CUT, its so fun to either swim or just picnic there, great study spot in the spring

I think that the Dawg Daze Quad movie is a must attend experience!
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love that we are a small city within the large urban center of Seattle. We have the opportunities that come with big city life, but the homey campus of UW.

Attend career fairs in the HUB!

I love the Population Health building because of all the windows and natural light it has. It's a great place to study, plus there's a Starbucks!

Definitely attending a Husky Football game! Even if you don't think you will enjoy it, give it a try-- it is so much fun and allows you to show your school pride and spirit!

I love that the UW is full of opportunities! Through RSOs, cool classes, or awesome teachers, UW has a lot opportunity for students to grow and really immerse themselves in learning.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favourite spot on campus is the chairs by the water near the fisheries. The water is really calming, and sitting there helps me relax and unwind.

Be confident in yourself and don't be afraid!

I love the way that no matter what you love or what your interests are, you will always find a group of people who share those interest. There are so many opportunities and ways to learn new things about life or even yourself.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Hans Rosling top floor always improves my mood. I get so much work done and always can look outside to look over U District in its true form.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love the people that I met along the way. They are the real reason why UW is so special and the activities that come along with it, being able to attend all the games, the endless events UW has to offer, but also a lot of support from professors, advisors and staff that make it so welcoming and comforting to be at UW.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Seattle and UW are both great places to dance! Whether you try social dance, a UW dance class, a dance RSO, or a one-off choreography class - there is so much dance in this city, especially when you are a UW student!
What advice do you have for new students?
Don’t take on too much at once! Your first year can feel overwhelming, so give yourself time to adjust and branch out gradually. Over time, you’ll find your own path!

I really love the campus overall, it is a really beautiful space to study, and all the people I have met and connected with.

Suzzallo because it reminds me of Harry Potter!

Look up from your phone when you walk between classes -- it's a beautiful campus, enjoy it!

The football games! There's always so much great energy and school spirit.

Be bold and don't be afraid of failure. There's so many new opportunities afforded to you at UW so might as well try your best.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Dawg Daze! I met so many new friends during those first few weeks of autumn quarter and got to do so many fun activities I had never done before, like kayaking at the WAC!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
I love the Quad! It is such a pretty place to walk through on my way to class.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
UW is so big, so no matter what, everyone can find a spot that is only for themself. This could be a place, a group, or a position. I have deeply been connected with the campus, and so far everything has been the best.
What advice do you have for new students?
Try to be a good listener and storyteller: we all come from different backgrounds and everyone has a unique story to share! This is what makes our community so diverse and inclusive.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
The on-campus concerts such as the Fall Fling and Spring Fling are must-dos!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Currently, I often spend time in the space in front of Jacob Lawrence Gallery—it offers beautiful views, a comfortable working environment, and the bonus of running into many friends!
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love how there are many ROS that are catered to different things and different interests. I also enjoy how walkable the city is and having the option to use public transportation to be able to explore the city in your free time.

I like going to the pool table at HUB, especially on Tuesdays, they have a great deal for students

I love the campus - the mix of modern and old architecture is very cool! The PNW is gorgeous and this campus highlights that.
What advice do you have for new students?
Your first few quarters at UW are the best time to explore your interests through classes, RSOs, etc!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is red square, because I love spending time in the central plaza. As the center of our campus, I feel that this area is an iconic part of our school. I love seeing campus involvements such as RSOs tabling and bands playing music! I also like how you can see the quad, Drumheller fountain, Rainier vista, west campus, suzzallo, and more from this location.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
The Maker's Fair. An event where a multitude of talented artists come together to sell their handmade items to the greater UW community.
What advice do you have for new students?
Keep your head down and focus on yourself. It is easy to get distracted and begin to compare yourself to others. Have faith in your abilities!
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love the beautiful campus! My favorite part of walking around is enjoying the scenic views of Mt. Rainier and the trees in the Quad during fall and spring quarters!
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
In the spring, the cherry blossoms bloom and campus is always bustling with life. Taking pictures and bringing people to the Quad during this time is such a memorable experience.

IMA -- so fun to work out with friends or after classes
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot is the Drumheller fountain! I love the view of Mount Rainier from there on a sunny day, and always try to catch a glimpse on my way to class.

What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
UW Football Game!! Being a part of the crowds and cheering for the Huskies football players shows the incredible school spirit UW has!
What advice do you have for new students?
Give yourself grace, reach out for support when you need it, and remember that growth comes from challenges. You’re not alone, and brighter days are always ahead!

Get involved and be brave when searching for new connections to make and new communities to become a part of!

I love how much opportunity there is. I am from a very small town, so being able to experience so many new things has been amazing!

Joining or starting a pick-up game of any sport on Denny Field and allowing anyone to join. It is so great for meeting people!

Denny Field: It is such a beautiful space on campus and I love walking by it on my way to class or the gym.

Location and how big it is. There are so many people and so many opportunities and it’s just so much fun.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Explore campus! One of my favorite activities my first year was to go on mini campus side quests and walk through random buildings or gardens I had not yet been in. (I made a bingo board and tried to check off every building on campus).
What advice do you have for new students?
Really just go for anything you want to do. You're only in college for so long, so it is the prime time to explore and discover as much as possible!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Life sciences building -- there's lots of different kinds of seating so you can be comfortable, lots of natural light (super important), there's a cafe in there, and there's a garden to walk through attached to the building!
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Going to the henry art gallery and exploring other treasures around campus!
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love the variety of experiences the University of Washington has to offer. UW is great at reaching out to students and providing resources to help us out. UW has everything you could want: great academics, energetic athletics, and a beautiful campus! I love exploring UW and appreciating its amazing architecture, as well as getting off campus and getting to enjoy the beauty of the state I love so much.
What advice do you have for new students?
Say Yes to new experiences! Your first year at UW is such an important time to form new friendships and try new things. Saying yes to knew things can open doors to so many new possibilities.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love how accessible nature is at the University of Washington. Being close to the water and surrounded by so much greenery is really nice for decompressing and resetting!
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Unite UW. I made so many friends from just a quarter-long program and had so many fun experiences. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great place to meet new people or simply just have fun at different events.
What advice do you have for new students?
Whether you're struggling in a class or not, go to quiz section, study centers, and office hours. It's so easy to meet people in these smaller spaces, and it's where I've met most of my friends in classes.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is the Life Science building. It has really cool architecture, and is a great place to study.

I love that even with such a big student population, it is easy to find smaller communities that make the world feel less large!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
The Population Health building is my favorite spot. Since it's a great place to study, with not too many people and a peaceful atmosphere. There’s also a Starbucks there.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
A must experience is the W photo. Although it was a little awkward at first, I was able to meet with many new people and connect over that awkwardness. There were not a lot of other Dawg Daze events that had the same atmosphere while also having that many people.

EVERYTHING! The people, the education, the campus, the location, the public transit
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
The Portage Bay area near the fishery sciences building! I personally love admiring bodies of water and the view at Portage Bay is stunning and peaceful.

Take all opportunities you are given, if you want something and only have to ask for it, the worst that can happen is they tell you no.

Definitely the First-year Interest Groups and the Student Activities Fair.

I love the diversity of people, communities, activities and academics at the University of Washington. I love how UW provides students with so many opportunities and resources to accomplish their goals and how the UW is such a welcoming and strong community with people from all walks of life.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Being part of as many clubs as possible makes the transitioning experience a lot easier as we meet people who are all pursuing different things. Learning about their journeys helps a lot
What advice do you have for new students?
A piece of advice that I would give to new students is to reach out to others! Your professors want you to learn and grow, and there are so many other support systems in place for you, including Advising, CLUE Tutoring, or resources in the residence halls!

I love how close it is to nature, the beautiful campus, and the amazing people.

Founder's Hall 5th floor balcony because it has an amazing view of Rainier and great people watching opportunity overlooking Denny Yard.

Unite UW is a must-experience for new students. It is an amazing program that fosters connections and cultural exchange in a welcoming and inclusive environment, a perfect place to meet people from different backgrounds and build lasting friendships!

One thing I love about UW is the freedom and creativity they allow here. You can create or join many RSOs, you can tailor your class schedule to classes that interest you, and there are so many opportunities available to you.

Get out of your comfort zone, the start of college is such a great time to try new things, because everyone else around you is in the same boat!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Denny field because the vibes are always so good and I love seeing people all together doing things they love such as playing different sports, chatting with their friends, soaking up the sun (sometimes), etc.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
The people and the amount of opportunities to get involved. I truly have found both my best friends and fields of study that I love by trying out different clubs, jobs, and the numerous activities that UW has to offer. These have allowed me to develop my confidence and find my home away from home.

Checking out the RSO fair is something that I would say is a must-experience for new students. It's a great way to explore the many different communities, interests, and clubs that are around campus. It's a great way to find opportunities that you had no idea existed.
What advice do you have for new students?
Transitioning to college can be challenging, but UW offers incredible support systems that make a real difference. It’s okay to feel a little lost at first, but remember, you’re never alone. A strong support network is here for you, so don’t hesitate to reach out, ask for help, and take full advantage of all the resources UW has to offer!

East Asia Library. Their chairs are cushioned.
What do you love about the University of Washington?
I love the amount of class options here. While it can be overwhelming, it gives me the opportunity to take classes I have never thought of before. The General Inquires requirement also allows me to explore classes outside of my major. For example, I took an Appreciation of Architecture class.
What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
Hiking with one of the many UW hiking RSOs!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot is down by the waterfront behind the science buildings and near Agua Verde. It's really pretty down there :)

What one thing would you say is a must-have experience for new students?
The opportunities at Welcome Week are a must-experience for new students, especially events like the Late Night Carnival, where students can meet new peers, build connections, and have fun while immersing themselves in the UW community.
