Dawg Daze is a great chance to meet new people, learn about groups on campus, and try new things!
What one thing would you say is a must-experience for new students?
I would suggest the RSO Fair and First-year Interest Groups (FIG) as two resources that helped me a lot during my transition to UW, with many opportunities to connect with other peers who share my interests and explore different resources for incoming students.
What do you love about University of Washington?
I really love the campus overall, it is a really beautiful space to study, and all the people I have met and connected with.
What do you love about University of Washington?
The University of Washington has the best campus, especially during the spring quarter when all the cherry blossoms are in season.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
When I need to relax, I'll usually be sitting on a bench at the lakefront in front of the Fisheries building. It's such a pretty view, and the air is just the right temperature when it gets warm here.
What do you love about University of Washington?
I love the diversity of people, communities, activities and academics at the University of Washington. I love how UW provides students with so many opportunities and resources to accomplish their goals and how the UW is such a welcoming and strong community with people from all walks of life.

Checking out the RSO fair is something that I would say is a must-have experience for new students. It's a great way to explore the many different communities, interests, and clubs that are around campus.
What one thing would you say is a must-experience for new students?
Get involved in RSOs and sports clubs, you’re definitely going find at least one that fits your interest! With so many options to choose from, it’s a great way to explore your passions, meet new people, and receive valuable opportunities.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Denny field because the vibes are always so good and I love seeing people all together doing things they love such as playing different sports, chatting with their friends, soaking up the sun (sometimes), etc.
What advice do you have for new students?
Put yourself out there and meet new people! Engage with extracurriculars and those around you in class. If something doesn't feel right, move on to something new!
What do you love about University of Washington?
I love Dubs! He's so cute and I love seeing him whenever possible.
What do you love about University of Washington?
What I love most about the University of Washington is its inclusive environment and the strong sense of belonging I have found here, which is something I had never experienced before. I really enjoy the campus events, and many of the faculty members are incredibly supportive. I also love the campus itself; it is beautiful.
What one thing would you say is a must-experience for new students?
Definitely make it to at least one sporting event. Sitting in the student section while cheering on your team surrounded in purple and gold is an experience you don’t want to miss. Go Dawgs!
What advice do you have for new students?
Your first year is what YOU make of it! What you put in is what you'll get out. If you want to make the most of your first year, it is up to you to spearhead exploration - however that looks like for you.
What one thing would you say is a must-experience for new students?
I highly recommend using the IMA; the recreation pass covers so many classes. You can socialize while also improving health and taking a break from school.
What advice do you have for new students?
My advice for new students is to not be afraid to explore and ask questions. UW has countless resources and opportunities, but sometimes you have to take the first step to find them. Be open to trying new things, reaching out to people, and even making mistakes, that’s how you’ll discover your community and grow the most.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
The MILL is my favorite spot on campus. As an engineer, having access to 3D printers, CNCs, laser cutters, sewing machines, and soldering tools is incredible. You can build ANYTHING, and it’s open to all students. It’s where you stop feeling like just a student and start feeling like an inventor.
What do you love about University of Washington?
The campus is beautiful! It is so fun to see how different areas change as the seasons go by with the leaves changing colors, the snow on the ground, and the cherry blossoms blooming throughout the year (Don't forget to take a whole bunch of pictures!)
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
There is a wonderfully simple boardwalk right in front of the Fisheries building near the water in west-campus. It's a nice place to visit late at night or in the early morning to watch the sunrise. Sometimes there are kind ducks, other times they aren't so nice, but there are ducks all the same.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
This might be cheesy but, my dorm! Perfectly decorating my room has been a joy, and I can always look forward to crashing at a place I call my own at the end of the day. Besides that, the Montlake Cut is beautiful on a hot spring day, and the Burke-Gilman Trail is great for biking.
What do you love about University of Washington?
The UW is such a diverse place with so many spaces to find belonging. I feel like I meet new incredible people every day who challenge me to expand my thought process.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Orin's in Paccar Hall - great place to meet with people or study, also the bagels are great!

The campus is really beautiful at all times of the year! It's very rewarding to be here, and feel supported by the people around me!

I love how the University of Washington offers a wide range of opportunities to grow both academically and personally. The strong sense of community—built through events, student organizations, and supportive resources—makes UW a place where everyone can belong and thrive.
What do you love about University of Washington?
UW is so big, so no matter what, everyone can find a spot that is only for themself. This could be a place, a group, or a position. I have deeply been connected with the campus, and so far everything has been the best.
What advice do you have for new students?
When stress arises, taking a break and disconnecting is entirely acceptable. Consider going for a fifteen- or twenty-minute walk in a place you enjoy to help alleviate stress before you dive back into your academic challenges at the University of Washington.
What advice do you have for new students?
Introduce yourself to classmates! When being with the same people X amount of times per week for 10 weeks, you find yourself getting comfortable with your classmates!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Red square, because it is a central location where you can see Mount Rainier and the fountain, as well as the Suzzalo library and the quad! It’s just so iconic.
What one thing would you say is a must-experience for new students?
Try an intramural sport or other team activity, such as being an actor in a play. You will find an incredible community and learn so much about yourself along the way. Plus, it’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone and be a part of something bigger than yourself!
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Fritz Hedges Waterway Park is my favorite spot on campus. I love watching sailboats glide by or simply sitting by the water and chatting with friends. It’s a great place to unwind without leaving campus.
What advice do you have for new students?
It’s okay not to know exactly what you want to do, college is a time to explore! Try new classes, join RSOs, and talk to people with different interests. You’ll learn a lot about yourself along the way, and that’s just as important as picking a major.
What advice do you have for new students?
Take at least five minutes to explore the resources shared with you—whether through email, Orientation sessions, or classmates. You're likely to find something that will support you in your academic journey.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
The Quad in the spring early morning! It gets crowded later in the day but as a person who takes morning classes, it's so peaceful early in the morning and the cherry blossoms make it feel like something out of a movie.
What one thing would you say is a must-experience for new students?
A must-experience is exploring our beautiful city, Seattle! Whether it's by yourself or with other new students, go visit different parts of the city and release your inner tourist. There are so many local restaurants and businesses, public street fairs, and fun events happening around Seattle, and I love feeling part of not only the UW community but also the Seattlelite community.
